The materials I have made are meant to complement my style of teaching; I like to start with simple forms and explanations, then build up to more complicated patterns and usages. In grammar and vocabulary, I think it is important for students to compare different forms and phrasings to decipher meaning. People remember what they have thought about, so it is important to make students think about the how structures are used.
I also think it is important for students to generate their own examples. After giving students examples and explanations, I encourage them to create their own sentences or paragraphs. This forces students not only to think about the forms, but also to use them actively. I do occasionally use fill-in-the-blank or matching activities as a warm-up or a quick review.
